'Spire Garden' 45 x 25cm .This exquisite piece of low relief art with flowers from a garden, made in concrete, exemplifies the harmony between nature and craftsmanship.
This commission was produced from fresh flowers collected on a day as part of the Salisbury Art Trail. They were then pressed into super smooth grey clay to make an indentented impression - the negative. The flowers, seeds and leaves are removed from the clay and a wooden frame placed around the negative. Strong Crystacal R Plaster was then oured into the frame and allowed to set. This is the 'positive' cast which shows the finest, intricate details of the arrangement of flowers in a bas releif.
To make this cast in concrete it was necessary to make a silicon mould of the plaster cast once dried (4 - 8 weeks). A concrete mix of Grey/Brown ciment fondu and kiln dried sand was then added to the silicone mould and left to set for 24 hours and, once demoulded, cured for 4 weeks.
The cast is then treated with Renaissence Wax.
